We who have shared so much in death

We who have shared so much in death together
should not now be so distant in life

We who were drawn to each other
in the shared suffering of people we knew, now gone,
should not be pulled apart so
as we wrestle with what they left behind them

What's done is done forever
and we cannot slip the chains that bind us from our past
But we who came so close
that we touched eternity together
as we stood upon the portals of no more
should not now let what it was that brought us to that spot
seer between us when we do not stand there any longer

We who have known so much in death together
cannot pretend to know so little now in life
